Roscoe

Roscoe had been living in a caravan with another Afghan for the past year, his owners divorced. Long working hours, lack of space and having to move from the caravan left his owner with the difficult decision of having to part with his dogs. Roscoe has landed on his feet and leads a lovely life. Below is a letter that Jozafeen sent after Roscoe had been with her for a few weeks.
My adorable boy was neutered on Monday. He also had his ears and undercarriage stripped of knots at the same time. He’s making such a good recovery. (we slept in three hour shifts on Monday night because he was still groggy). He will soon be back to his usual bouncy self. He is such a lovely boy that even the cats have been watching over him the last two days and have allowed him to sleep on ‘their bed’ (i.e. the guest room double while he is getting better).
I must say I’m so proud of him! He’s bonded with us and is so well behaved that he goes off the lead for short runs when we’re out with his new doggy friends on the secluded woodland path. I’m quite missing our long walks this week and can’t wait until he’s all healed up and raring to go again!
Here is a link, I’m keeping an online photographic record of his progress and the lovely times we’re already having together (can you tell how smitten I am with him?) and how healthy he’s looking already.

Roscoe’s Three Month Update.
.jpg)
I can hardly believe it’s been just three months since we re-homed Roscoe. He’s such a huge part of our life that we really can’t remember what it was like without him!
We are so proud of our Roscoe, he’s so bright and willing to learn. He has changed rapidly from the shy, nervous dog we meet just before Christmas into a friendly, confident character. He has a couple of four mile runs in ‘his’ woodland a day and two shorter ones around the village where it’s quite usual for us to be stopped by people wanting to meet him. He is such a local celebrity now that when we go for our lunchtime walk all the children at the village school line up to wave to him. The lovely people at the shop keep treats just in case he calls in to see them. He’s got lots of new doggy friends to run off the lead with too!
It’s still early days as far as his coat is concerned. Roscoe gets very grumpy about being groomed but is slowly getting used to it. Since we had all the huge mats clipped out at the vets, we have got some condition into his coat and he’s turned from a straw colour to a proper deep gold. It’s still short and at the sticky out stage at the moment so everyone thinks he’s a youngster, especially because he’s so bouncy and happy.

As he loves going anywhere in the car, we’re really looking forward to taking him for days out now the better weather is here. He was so headstrong at first that he was difficult to control enough to take anywhere, but he is such a laid-back chap these days that he’s an absolute pleasure to take anywhere.
Even though he seems quite happy lounging about at home with our three cats, we’d really like to get him an affie friend sometime in the future. I think it would have to be another rescue too as making Roscoe so obviously happy has been very rewarding.
Jozafeen.
